Documents Needed to Apply for Student Visa:

The student visa is called a Tier 4 General Visa in the UK and following are the details to apply for it:

  • The visa application fee is GBP 348, which can be paid online, through demand draft or in cash at a bank.
  • Students should have the following documents in order to apply for a student visa:
  1. Tuberculosis Test Certificate if you’re from a country where the test is required.
  2. Health Surcharge Reference Number – this also involves payment of an additional fee.
  3. Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) – this is your offer letter from a university.
  4. Proof of funds to cover expenses for a period of nine months. The funds should be GBP 11,385 if the college is in London or GBP 9,135 if the college is in another city. If the funds are held under a parent’s name, then the student is required to provide proof of the relationship and also, the funds should have been with the student for at least 28 days before application.
  5. A valid passport.
  6. Proof of parental or other legal guardian consent if the student is below 18 years of age.
  7. Proof of relationship with parents or other legal guardians if the student is below 18 years of age.
  8. A blank page in the passport for visa stamping.
  9. Additional documents may be required depending on the circumstances.

 

Living in the UK as a Student:

  • The cost of living in the UK as a student is quite high, especially if the student is living in London.
  • Students can live comfortably in a budget of around GBP 1,000 per month in small cities, but it can go as high as GPB 1,500 living in London.

 

Part-Time Jobs in the UK for Students:

  • Students are allowed to work 20 hours per week on a part-time basis while pursuing their master’s degrees in the UK.
  • This allowance increases to 40 hours per week, which is full-time work, during vacations.
  • Students can find part-time work on campus or they can work in an industry outside the campus. Retail is a popular choice among students and some of them also work in the hospitality and service industries. Some students are also able to find internships in a field related to their course.
